Is there any way I can show fiscal calendar using this control. My requirement is to display a fiscal calendar and allow planning based on Fiscal date ranges.

Project Description
I had a problem where the default Calendar control did not allow for customization on day values. So I created a custom WCF hosted Silverlight Calendar controls that allow for appointment making and half day events.

I had a problem statement where I needed to be able to display a Calendar control that showed appointment dates that covered full-day, half-day, and week to month spans. After many hours/days of research I was unable to find anything available so I decided to create my own. In the zip file you will find to sub folders ControlLibrary and ServiceBuild. The ServiceBuild is a release for the WCF service that host all of the customization factors for the Calendar Control (i.e. Appointment dates, Highlighting values). The ControlLibrary folder is the Silverlight Control Library for the Calendar. I was in the process of release a full fledged Silverlight control library but though I would release it as it is and see what the community thinks about it first before I embarrass myself.

I see that a lot of people are downloading this control (which I am glad for). Let me know what you think about it, or how you are using it. It will let me know how I should make future upgrades/enhancments to the control. I can custom taylor make this control to fit anyone's needs, but you have to let me know how you are using it so I can fit it that way.

If you like what you see please start a discussion on review/rate the application. This way it will raise the awareness of the application to more communities and threads. Tell your friends/co-workers about the application. The more people looking and thinking about this product the better in the long run it will become. I have not had anyone make any suggestions yet; however, I am all ears on any new ideas/imporovements.

I am not a graphic artist by no means and if anyone with an eye for graphics would like to help out with the control please let me know. I could really use the help to overcome the "Programmers Design" touch that seems to overwelm this app.

NOTE:
I have converted the project to version 3.0 as of 10/20/2009 @ 11:30. The downloads page will continue to have the version 2.0 project as a possilbe download but will no longer be adding updates to this project unless requested. The new recomended version will be in the Source Code tab and on the downloads page.

The calendar supports different starting views such as Decade, Year, and Month. It also supports features such as:
Show Next-Previous Month
Show Next-Previous Year
Show Next-Previous Decade
Back out from Month to Year to Decade
Abbreviating Month-Day names
Color Settings (change day colors (full or half day), header, year and month (selection, border, default background), and overall background for Calendar)
High-Lights current Year, Month, Day
SelectionMode on the SelectionCalendar. The modes will be single and multiple. Both modes now fire an event with the list of selected dates.

I have made some changes to the Outlook Calendar thanks to some sugestions from a pleased user. I have added a Year view that will display all Months in the year at one time and I have also added a "Hours Per Day" feature that will let you control the number of Hours displayed in one day (i.e. if hours per day is 2 then 12AM and 12PM will display giving you a "Half Day" effect).

I have created a Day Calendar that displays todays date. Its really simplistic but has many praticle uses. You can also set it to display a static date for blog post or itemized postings.

Day Calendar:

User interface for the appointments has been completed (I hope...). Still may be a little buggy, but I am pushing it out anyways to show the capabilities. I am still working on incorporating this new UI into the Month View. I think I might actually take a different approach to it there. Because you can browse to a day from the Month I believe I might leave it as this to view the appointments. Thanks to ttschupp I have a lot of new ideas to play around with this weekend so keep checking back for updates because they are comming. I have now added MouseWheel support for the ScrollViewer on the Outlook Calendar. I have now added support for spanning hours for an appointment.

I am still working on the template parts of the Calendar.

DateTimePicker	DateTimePicker Extended

The DateTimePicker fires an event when the selected date changes and also contains the value of the selected date.

Selection Mode Events:

Calendar Extended: Allows for three month previews of data displayed in regular calendar. I have created new views for both the Calendar and the Calendar Extended controls (i.e. DisplayMode Display and Selection). DisplayMode is the view that is show above. The new view will be the Selection DisplayMode.

Features Include:
Span 1 to n number of months.
Show next - previous year
Legend (Legend data is created dynamically from the data in the CalendarOptions.xml file located in the ClientBin folder)

Header Templating:

I have added the functionality to template each of the header button items (left, right) to allow for any type of content in the button itselft (i.e. paths (current), images, other controls).

I have also added events for the day selection to fire and return the Calendar and the DateTime object selected.

I have updated the Demo application to show a little more insight into how the control can be exposed.

I have done some research on template parts and believe I will attempt to make a new release of all the calendar controls in the near future with the templating in full working condition. If there is any need/interest in this I can try and put a hurry on it but I have not heard too much from the community about this so it has taken a back seat to the rest of the overall work. Currently I have not found a good and clean way to develop the template parts yet so I am still doing some research; however, I might just drop this idea and leave the Calendars as they are for right now unless I hear some interest in the development. I believe I might start working on some new controls to add to the library instead of just the Calendar.

Thanks for the great comments. I have put a lot of effort into this control library and have since taken it to the next level. I have decoupled a lot of the projects and have made them as independent of each other as I can. I removed the ability to modify/delete an existing appointment while I was working on getting some of the other features to work; however, I have added back the abilities but have not released another version on codeplex. I have added some more controls to the library as well. I have a live working demo of the entire control library at http://www.xxdisclaimerxx.info/demo. This is where I will display all of my controls from now on. I do not know if I will release anymore projects on codeplex for a while. I will continue to try and help as much as I can on specific issues. Just let me know how I can help.

This a great control, you must have spent quite a while working on it. I'm particularly interested in the Outlook Calendar, am trying to modify it to get it to

1- Modify an existing appointment

2- Delete an existing appointment

Which the current version doesn't let you do. It would make it easier to work with if the Outlook part was isolated , there so much code to go through right now.

This release is an Alpha release under Silverlight v3.0, so please be as critical as possible so that I can improve the worth of the application through the community.

New Features:
As of 10/20/2009 @ 11:30 AM I have added full support for the MouseWheel on the ScrollViewer in the Outlook Calendar.

As of 10/22/2009 @ 6:53 PM I have now added support for spanning hours for an appointment.

As of 10/23/2009 @ 5:39 PM I have now added support for drag and drop for the Day/Week views for the appointments. This functionality is limited though because it does not update the start/end date and time for the appointment yet and it also does not "snap" to the correct location. I have also added a new item called the Day Calendar that displays todays today in a simplistic fashion, or can be set to display a static date.

As of 11/03/2009 @ 2:45 PM I have now done a complete remodel of the Control Library structure. I was having problems with namespaces and concurency with the flow of the application so I decoupled almost all of it. I have seperated all of the individual calendars into their own namespace with a root namespace of "Calendar". I have fixed a lot of visual elements of the Classic Calendar. It now uses a Grid as the main structure instead of a WrapPanel which allows for easier sizing the individual elements. Im sorry for the restructure of the root of the application but I see it as a nessecary fix to allow for future implementations.

As of 11/04/2009 @ 4:30 PM I have made some changes to the Outlook Calendar thanks to some sugestions from a pleased user. As of 11/06/2009 @ 7:00 PM I have added a resizing ability on the Day/Week view appointments.

ISSUES:

- Outlook Calendar Year view - when using the mousewheel to scroll the months in the year view when in between months the mousewheel does not scroll the contents. It only works when the mouse is possitioned over a "Month".

- Outlook Calendar Day/Week views - when resizing the times do not update yet and the week view no longer spans days correctly.

1. Selection is not proper after mouse up event

Please read the following steps for Multiple Selection:

1. Select the any date on a month. Let's say 2nd Feb 2010.

2. Color of selected date is changed to Orange

3. Hold down the mouse and move on the other dates. Let's say 9th Feb 2010 (just below the 2nd Feb)

4. It selects 2nd Feb and 10th Feb only instead of 2nd Feb to 10th Feb. Actually it gives the proper selection dates but it confuses the user because of the selection

An idea is maybe to derive interfaces from AppointmentProvider and OptionsDataProvider. Then it would be simple to make your own one implementation.

Without knowing exactly how you have your application configured this will be a little challenging to debug. In the demo application that I have on Codeplex there is a SLControllibrary.Demo that host the control library. This demo project creates a .xap file that is then pushed to a "ASP.Net" application's ClientBin folder. In this ClientBin folder there needs to be an AppointmentOptions.xml file which is where all the appointment information is stored. If you want the application to run as I have created then there also needs to be a webservice or handler in the ASP.Net application as well called "FileUpload" that handles the saving of the file. If you look at the structure of the application from the one I have created here on CodePlex then you should see what I am talking about. Let me know if I can help any further, or my explination was not clear.

I can't seem to get any appointments into the calendar at all. The xDoc var is null in the SaveXML method´- am I missing something--?. I will look into that tomorrow.

I am glad that you like the control. Unfortunely there is not a mechanism that will allow you add appointments externally as of yet. You have to use the interface to invoke the interal events that create a new appointment. If you double click on any of the day items this will popup an empty appointment which will allow you to create it and save it to the local xml file that holds all of the appointments. I did find a bug while researching this for you. You need to modify ucEditAppointment in the following way. There is an "if" statement that checks to see if the CurrentAppointment.ID > 0 and the updates the UI accordingly to the right appointment; however, there needs to be an "else" statement that sets the CurrentAppointment.IsNewAppointment boolean to true.

This will allow for new appointments to be created on the fly. I havent had much time to work on the Calendar lately; however, I can try and add some functionality to give you the ability to insert appointments on the fly like you were wanting to do. If you would like to attempt it, all you would have to do is tie in a new event handler in the ucCalendar class like the Content_AddAppointment_Clicked and the Appointment_Submited events and it should work.

Thank you for your compliments on the control. We are working hard on getting a good product released for the general public.

Are you using the .zip file or the source code download? The source code download (TFS) is newer than the zip file from the downloads link. I believe, not a 100% sure but I believe that is fixed in the TFS source code; however, I do know there are some issues with the week view since I added the code for the resize and drag/drop functionality for the day view.

Love the calendar control (much like everyone else).

I'm having a particular issue with the appointments in the OutlookCalendar with the work week setting.

Appointment detail.

The ucContent.Populate() method assigns the _Week.DayContentWidth from the ucDayContentItem.Width which happens to be NaN. This in turn throws an exception in the AppointmentsItemPanel.MeasureOverride() method.

The exception is: UIElement.Measure(availableSize) cannot be called with NaN values in availableSize.

Any ideas?

Thank you for the complements on the control... The year view was really a proof of concept for another user that was asking if it was possible. I admit I kind of did not finish the view to its full extent and it still needs some work. If this functionality is of one that you need now I can go back and revist it this view to complete it. My focus has been on the appointments and have pushed other parts of the control to back of the priority list. Let me know and I can have this for you very quickly.
